Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) process is a method of FRP (Fiber-reinforced plastic) product manufacturing. FRP is a composite material, which is made of a polymer matrix reinforced with fiber preform. The FRP products structure has been widely used in the aircraft and automotive parts, due to its high strength and stiffness. In RTM process, the reinforcement (dry fiber mat) is placed in the cavity, and the thermosetting resin is then injected into the cavity.
The challenge of RTM process is to select of the inlet and vent location to avoid flow imbalance. Due to the anisotropic permeability within the fiber mat and the fluid viscosity increased with time, the filling behavior of resin is hard to be predicted without 3D simulation tools. Moldex3D RTM supports users to modify or even optimize the molding process in the early design stage before tooling and manufacturing.
