To prepare RTM model with multiple plys and different fiber mat orientation, launch Moldex3D Mesh (Rhino) and click RTM Wizard. RTM Wizard provides a interactive interface and integrated functions, so users can prepare with components, mesh, fiber mat, material group, boundary condition (BC) and then export RTM model as MFE. The tabs for different workflow steps of RTM model preparation will be briefly introduced as following:
Import: Import geometry or mesh from Moldex3D, LS-DYNA. There are Check Tools for users to check free edges and intersection, which will also provided in other tabs in RTM Wizard.
Meshing: This tab is to generate mesh model through Seeding, Surface mesh generation, Dividing surface mesh (by angle or by selection), Checking free edge, Solid mesh generation (Tetra and Prism). It is very important to check free edge and intersection using tools below.
Orientation: Click Add and select solid mesh to assign fiber mat properties, and edit the fiber mat name, attribute, base vector and principle direction (R1 & R2). Right click on the existing ply to re-assign ply property, remove ply property, select base surface and re-define base vector. The fiber mat orientation will then define the generalized mechanical property of part together with melt and ply material.
In RTM process, the fiber mat orientation has a great influence on flow pattern and the mat condition changes after draping into cavity. Moldex3D designer helps users set the fiber mat orientation along the cavity geometry. The original fiber mat orientation is defined by Principle axis (R1), Secondary principle axis (R2), associated Permeability (K11, K22, K33), and Porosity. The new Principle axis (L1), Secondary principle axis (L2) after draping are then obtained using projection method and the effective orientation and property of fiber mat laid inside the cavity can be calculated.

Material: Assign each ply to different material group from drop-down menu which can be edited by clicking Add/Delete. Thus, plys in the same material group will only requires one time selection of ply material lateral when preparing analysis project.
BC Setting: Click Add and select surface mesh to assign boundary condition, and edit the BC type, group, and display color below. Right click to re-assign or remove BC from selected surface mesh. Since this tab works on surface mesh, Surface Mesh Tools are provided.

Note: Exhaust is an important factor in the resin transfer molding process. In the filling stage, the resin is filled from the inlet to the exhaust boundary.
MFE Export: Click Export to export RTM model (MFE and KPT file) or Re-export KPT to export only for venting BC.
